Equipment for Baby............?

Ducati

Hi! today I had my first scan, and saw my baby for the first time. I'm quite worried as I'm further in the pregnancy than I first thought. I thought I was 16wks, but I'm actually 19wks I don't know how I lost a month. But anyways... I'm very excited now.

I want to start preparing, and I need a list of equipment and stuff I'll need throughout the pregnancy. I've got a little bump. Can anybody give me some tips on how to deal with stretch marks?

Thank you!

Answer
Stretch Marks:
They're mostly hereditary but depend on how you take care of your skin as well. There are tons of creams, I recommend Palmer's for pregnancy, that help with skin elasticity and rebound, but hardly any of them work.Mostly due to the fact that genes are factored into it.But Palmer's helped my out, if you use it early and all the way through until even after postpartum on it's the most useful.

Pregnancy Checklist:
Belly Band
Maternity clothes or bigger sized clothes;most women go up about, hm....3 or 4 sizes.I'm tiny and I went up about 4.
Palmer's Cocoa Butter OIL.Not cream.
Comfy shoes
Comfy undies
A baby at-home heart monitor, if you want the option of listening to baby's heartbeat on your own time whenever you want
Pregnancy and Infant books; it's always good to educate yourself.I recommend What to Expect When You're Expecting
That's about it; buy as you grow, and don't over buy on the maternity stuff, you don't need much of it.

Baby Checklist:
-Diapers
-Wipes
-Diaper bag
-Feeding;
-For nursing: a Boppy pillow and a throw-over cover for public feeding

Answer
Here's a basic list of essentials for keeping an aquatic turtle:

1) UVB lighting (bulb and fixture) available for 10 - 12 hours a day; this will be a separate light from the heat lamp, unless you use a MVB (mercury vapor bulb), as they are the only reptile use bulbs on the market to date that will produce UVB and heat from one bulb. MVBs are recommended for larger enclosures as they only come in larger wattages.

I highly recommend that you do not use coiled/compact UVB bulbs as they are known to cause severe eye damage and/or blindness in reptiles, not to mention they have trouble maintaining UVB output over time. The long tube UVB bulbs are best, like Zoomed's Reptisun model: http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/uvb-fluorescent-lights-mercury-vapor-bulbs/-/zoo-med-24-repti-sun-50-uvb-bulb/ Remember to replace UVB bulbs according to the manufacturers recommendation after which time the bulb will no longer produce UVB even if visible light still is.

2) Basking heat source (bulb and fixture) available for 10 - 12 hours a day. Basking temp should be 90 F and should be situated over the dry land portion of the enclosure.

3) Water heater; water should be heated and maintained at about 78 F.

4) No substrate is needed; substrate, like gravel, will only serve to hold poo and food particles leading to the cause of poor water quality. Unless you get a gravel vacuum and use it religiously, you will fight a loosing battle to keep the water clean when using gravel in the tank, especially when the turtles become larger. A bare bottom is best and the turtles won't miss a thing.

5) The enclosure should be about 25% dry land (the turtles should be able to get out and get completely dry should they choose to do so) and 75% water. The water should be fairly shallow for babies, maybe a few inches, but as the turtles get larger the water should be fairly deep, about 1.5 - 2 times the length of the turtle deep.

6) A rule o thumb for aquatic turtle tank size is 10 gallons per inch of turtle length. YBS are athletic turtles, and turtles create a lot of waste, so they should have lots of water in their enclosure to help give them plenty of swimming space and to help dilute all the waste they make.

7) Water dechloinator; you can get a fish dechlorinator or get one marketed for turtles, they will do the same thing. Especially with smaller turtles, they can be sensitive to the chemicals that cities add to tap water to make it safe for people to drink.

8) YBS are omnivores; they should have veggies and protein (like feeder insects) in their diet. As younger turtles, their diet should consist of mostly protein, and as adults their diet should consist of more veggie. Here's a guide with a more extensive appropriate food list: http://herp-info.webs.com/aquaticturtles.htm

Help needed with baby shower?!?

Milanas mo

I just started my baby registry, but I'm not good at it. Its quiet frustrating. Since most of my friends are guys, and I have 2 good gfs,I decided to do my own baby shower. One of my girl friends will take care of cake and other sweets, and other one will help me,but she's currently away and the shower is in few weeks, and I'm stuck.
Can you please tell him what kind things to register for?everyone says diapers,I did reg.for maybe pack or two,but I got confused,do I register for newborns(up to 8 pnds) or different size? What size should I register?
I read that you decorate the place,I will do that and take care of food. What other things do I do for the shower? Please help!
Also,in my culture its very different,we have thing call "babine",which is similar to baby shower, but not really. You basically have your friends over after the baby is born, and no one ever heard of baby registry, you just bring presents. They don't decorate, play games, ect. So its hard to ask my mom for help, because this is what she knows.

Answer
Well, as for the registry, I signed up for baby clothes, towels, the baby's bath tub, car seat, stroller, bottles, a play yard, etc. Pretty much everything the baby will need. As for sizes, you can register for newborn and up. Remember, you will end up using them all as the baby grows. You should check out the Target site (www.target.com) they have a pretty good registry section that will offer recommendations. Also Babies R Us has lots of things that may inspire you.

As for the shower, here is a good site that will tell you games, activites and checklists: http://www.plan-the-perfect-baby-shower.com/baby-shower-game-and-activity.html

Good Luck!

How do you make a baby be quite?

I am taking care of a baby but it never shuts up.The diper is changed. The baby is fead but it still keeps on crying.SOME 1 HELP ME.

Answer
Do nothing, trust me! It's hell at first, but eventually the baby will realize that crying is not getting anything accomplished.

Run down the checklist, check diaper (done) - feed (done) - burp - swaddle - let cry!

The main reason babies cry is for attention, which is fine; however, the younger the age, the more the baby soon to be child thinks the world revolves around them. All babies need to be taught that they are not center of the universe unless you want a little monster on your hands.

Dual Military Family Care Plan before baby is born?

Anon.

I need to know where to find the regulation that states whether or not my wife's national guard unit can force her to complete a family care plan before the baby is born. I have been looking around and I can not find it.

The trouble is, I am deployed and she does not live near anyone we want to be in our family care plan. Until I return, it is impossible for her to complete the plan. Please do not reference DA Form 5304-R I am aware of what the checklist states.

Answer
When a military member first becomes a single-parent or military couple with children, he/she must notify his or her commander, supervisor, or the commander's designated representative immediately but no later than 30 days of the occurrence of change in family circumstances or personal status (60 days for Guard/Reserve members). After that, the military member(s) have 60 days (90 days for Guard/Reserve members) to submit a completed family care plan. If mitigating circumstances are involved, the commander or supervisor concerned may grant the member an additional 30 days to submit an acceptable family care plan. Further extensions are not authorized.

The same 60 day rule applies for active duty military members who move from one military base to another. They have 60 days to find a short-term care provider who lives in the local area.

Military mothers of newborns receive a 4-month deferment from duty away from the home station for the period immediately following the birth of a child. This provision is to assist the member in developing family care plans and to establish a pattern of child care. Single members or one member of a military couple who adopt receive a 4-month deferment from the date the child is placed in the home as part of the formal adoption process. Similarly, Reserve component members re

How much does having a baby cost?

Blaire J

I found out I'm pregnant, and I'm 16. I have a job that pays 10$ an hour, and my mom is willing to let me live at home. I need to provide everything for my child. I live in Canada, and the father is moving to the southern state of Florida with his family. I am a straight A student and I am in Grade 12 this coming up school year, due to my good grades. I need to know what I'll need to get for my baby. (It's a girl.) How much will it cost? Thanks!
I will not give my child up for adoption. I live in a nice home, with a nursery and everything set up. I am a teenager, and I havent been a parent before. I need to know what I will need for my child as in how many diapers a day, formula, etc. My father is very wealthy and is buying me a condo, which I will pay half of over time. I am trying to get another job that pays 25$ an hour. I just need the basic amounts.
I have decided to name her Emily Grace. I know I can raise her. I can give her anything she needs.
The father is not in the picture. He isnt mature enough to step up. He is moving. I think the best thing for my child will be a stable home. Even if its just me watching her

Answer
I am 19, and also pregnant. I have done the budgeting, for the BARE MINIMUM you need for a newborn (though it does include things for a proper nursery). Of course, I have done all my shopping on Amazon, so I have found some pretty good deals. You could also cut costs by shopping thrift stores and garage sales.

Here are the checklists I used, one for what you need for a newborn, one for what you will need during maternity:

http://www.baby-checklist.com/
http://www.thecradle.com/maternity_checklist

For me, with all of the things I have found on Amazon, its only going to cost me a little over 2,000 for the bare minimum of things (for baby and maternity), assuming I do not get a baby shower (still unsure on that so far, I am only six weeks along and have not told my parents). That is not bad considering how expensive babies can be, but you will need more then that, as babies grow quickly and go through clothes fast. To cut costs, I am also going to use cloth diapers, and plan on breastfeeding.

You sound like you are in a pretty good position to have a baby, even though you are only 16, you seem to have a good job and its great you are a good student. It will be much harder next year, with the baby, just make sure you graduate :) best of luck to you and your little baby girl! Have you thought of any names yet??

Also, is the baby's dad in the picture?

Edit: Don't listen to the people who say you cannot raise a baby at this age, or give it a good life. You can. Lots of girls have done it before you. Its definitely not going to be easy, but you don't have to give her up for adoption for her to have a good life. With a good job and a stable household, you will do just fine : )

Edit: Sorry about the baby's daddy, but you don't need him ^ ^ I am moving across country from my baby's daddy and he doesn't care about the baby at all, which is fine with me. The name is beautiful - one of the names I am considering is Emily Rose, if its a girl. this link might help you:
