i was thinking about going to build a bear and making a bear for my future niece but then i was thinking that ..that is more of a 3 year old or 4 year old gift. so what are some good ideas?

My kids both got bears before they were born and we took regular photos of them as they grew next to that bear. It really showed how much they were growing. I think it's a nice gift to have a first teddy bear.
However, from a mom's standpoint, great gifts are onesies, diapers and a receiving blanket or two. I was shocked with my first at how little I actually needed.

honestly, what i wished i had gotten most at my shower was a TON of newborn and size one diapers, and other necessities...as for something unique and original...most people dont think to get something for he mommy...you could try getting her something for herself...a gift certificate to a spa, or some aroma therapy candles, or bubble bath, or something like that...or giver her a really neat handmade certificate saying that she is entitled to have you babysit for her, for however many hours or whatever, so she can go do something for herself, or her and her hubby can have a date.

People usually buy the "cute & fun" things. I would go with something the baby would actually need, it helps the mom out.

my really good friend is having a baby in October. I've already started buying her gifts now because I'm soo excited. I bought her a few outfits for the soon to come baby girl. I also got an old baby changing table that I'm going to restore for her. It has three drawers and a place to hang a blanker. I'm going to put things inside it for the baby shower, like extra gifts. But, I don;t know what. Moms and dads of newborns, what does she really need? What do you run out of or can never have too many of?

Of course diapers, washcloths bibs. Wipes. Also why not put something in there just for mommy after her child is born. Maybe hide a gift certificate for a good spa place. Or a watch the baby coupon. I was wondering when is the best time to have a baby shower? After baby is born (thought u might be busy with new baby) or before baby is born so you can pay attention to the people who come? Also this might come off ungrateful but its not, I just dont want to waste things that wont be used. Anyhow is there a way to register for a new baby registry like a wedding registry? I wouldnt want people giving me things I wont use, thats mean since I wont use their gift, id be upset if I gave something and it didnt get used? More specifically I dont want TONNES of baby brandname toys and Dora/Pooh paraphanalia. I personally hate winnie the pooh :(

Stores like Target & WalMart also offer baby registries, but do not offer the wide variety of items that places like Babies R Us does. Family & friends can still shop online or in the store, but more items are available online than in most stores.
Large department stores often have baby registry services as well. The down side is that they usually don't carry all of the baby gear you are going to need to care for your newborn, and the items they do have can be pricey.
If you & your family like the convenience of shopping online, then you can even create a registry at Amazon! Since you can't see the items before hand, go to different manufacturer web sites to get the full details or go to stores to do your research before adding items to your registry.

Shes about to give birth, within the next week, I know the dad and i speak to her friends, ive met her once or twice and shes such a nice girl. Im looking to get something as a gift for their newborn baby, its a girl! would a teddy be good? or a photo album? what should i get?

If you want to get a practical gift, then a voucher for a baby store so she can pick up stuff she doesn't already have. If you want to get something cute and unusual, someone got me a little clay set that you can make a mold out of the baby's hands and feet with... I thought that was nice.
